MAVERICK'S LIST OF FAIRCHILD CHANNEL F VIDEOGAMES
Journey back to the early, primitive days of
videogames (we're talking mid-70's here) when
using cartridges was an innovation! (Before
the Channel F a hot home videogame may have
had three or four built-in variations
of pong.) The Channel F built in speaker
generates the appropriate beeps. The
"dazzling" half-dozen colors and blocky
graphics are actually used to good effect
by the games. The Channel F also featured
a unique joystick style controller that
could be pulled up, pushed down or twisted
right or left in addition to the standard
forward, back, right and left movements.
A dinosaur, and a nostalgic one at that
since it was the first videogame my
family owned.
Some of my favorite titles are marked * and
have a brief commentary as to their merits.
B M GAME (CARTRIDGE NUMBER)
-------------------------------------------------
ALIEN INVASION (VIDEOCART 26)
X X BACKGAMMON/ACEY-DEUCEY (VIDEOCART 11)
X X BASEBALL (VIDEOCART 12)*
although this laughably simple version of
baseball will never be confused with a
simulation, it's simple style lets everyone
get in on the fun.
X X BOWLING (VIDEOCART 21)
X X DESERT FOX (VIDEOCART 2)
X DODGE' IT (VIDEOCART 16)
X X DOODLE (VIDEOCART 1)
X X DRAG STRIP (VIDEOCART 9)*
the design of the Fairchild stick gives a
great H-pattern 4-speed feel in this quick
shifting game of blown engines and red-light
starts! Cool feature: since your car stages
(starts) a bit behind the starting line, you
actually have to get moving slightly before
the green light to get the best times.
X X GALACTIC SPACE WARS (VIDEOCART 23)
X X HANGMAN (VIDEOCART 18)
X X MAGIC NUMBERS (VIDEOCART 8)
X X MATH QUIZ II (VIDEOCART 7)
X X MAZE (VIDEOCART 10)*
fast action fun for one or two players
trying to escape a variety of mazes
(including filled in and invisible
variants.) Cat-and-mouse variants
require players to avoid computer
controlled cats sweeping the maze.
MEMORY MATCH (VIDEOCART 15)
X X PINBALL CHALLENGE (VIDEOCART 17)
PRO FOOTBALL (VIDEOCART 24)
X X QUADRA-DOODLE (VIDEOCART 1)
X X ROBOT WAR (VIDEOCART 13)
SABA VIDEOPLAY (GERMAN VIDEOCART 1)
X X SHOOTING GALLERY (VIDEOCART 1)
X X SHOOTING GALLERY (VIDEOCART 2)
X X SONAR SEARCH (VIDEOCART 14)
X X SPACE WAR (VIDEOCART 5)
X X SPITFIRE (VIDEOCART 4)*
aspiring dogfighters could face-off against
the computer or another player in this
primitive air combat game.
X X TIC-TAC-TOE (VIDEOCART 1)*
I'm joking about the asterisk of course.
Perhaps the only videogame to use the line
"You lose turkey" when the computer wins!
X X TORPEDO ALLEY (VIDEOCART 13)
X X VIDEO BLACKJACK (VIDEOCART 3)*
attractive rendition of blackjack considering
the system's limitations and good for hours
of fun for one or two miserly gamblers.
