Welcome to the Dead Squirrel Ranch

We miss you dad…

It is with great sadness that I must report that Carol's dad, Calvin Waite Sr. passed away on the morning of Thursday, the 30th of April 2006. Though dad had been weak for the last couple of months or so, he was able to enjoy meals and TV during that time. We were fortunate enough to be able to eat meals with him in the family room. At about 12:30 AM on Wednesday the 29th, Calvin felt like the end was near. We called all of the local family to come see dad. Though it was 3 AM in the morning, everyone that could, came to see dad. Though dad passed away on Thursday, we were able to pull together the ceremony on Sunday. It was complete with the attendance of 5 members of the United States Navy as an honor guard. Complete with the presentation of a flag to Carol and the playing of taps.

Carol, Sandy and myself all wrote our thoughts about dad. They were presented by Sandy's son in law Kevin McCann and myself. The context of these presentations can be found by clicking here.

You're going to think we have lost our minds…
… and maybe we have, but Carol and I are Very seriously considering giving up our jobs in a few years, selling the house, and living full time, on the road. It's called 'Fulltiming' and there are hundreds of thousands of Families that have done it before us. Don't panic, we haven't made any 'Irreversible' moves yet, but the plan is to wait until Katie turns 18, and then go from there. This idea has been a long time coming with us. Carol and I started believing 'Less is more' when we carpeted our house in Pioneer. Why you may ask, SIMPLE! We had to pack so much stuff in the way of nick nacks that we were exhausted after the carpeting project was done.  We have always enjoyed RV'ing, but after we bought our 5th wheel, we have really fallen in love with being away from home. We are very seriously considering packing what we want to keep for ever, putting it in storage; Loadin' what we need into the trailer, selling the rest, including the house and hitting the road. We don't know if it will be for good, but we do know we'll have to do the 'Workamper' thing where we get jobs at RV parks and such. We figure we will try it for at least a while and see what happens. We figure, if we need to, we can always find a place to set down roots again and get  full time jobs if we need to and start a "Normal" life all over again. Stay tuned for more info on this as time goes on.

While Carol and I were on vacation last week in San Diego, we bought a brand new fifth wheel to help us along in our long travels. Click here to check out our new rig!
