Laser Plates Many laser plate users have dealt with toning on the plate, at about 1/2 of one percent- invisible to the naked eye, but visible under a loop, and manifesting itself as soon as the plate was on the press. This causes an even shade or screen of ink to appear on the printed page- especially evident toward the 1/4" gripper at the leading edge, followed by a 1/2 of a percent gradiated tone from top to bottom on the printed page- A frustrating and time consuming problem.... Until Now- Thanks to a printer in Utah- A simple procedure has been developed to eliminate this problem with laser plates- 1. Adjust EP1 to between 4-6 and EP2 to between 4-6 2. After printing out plate, pour generous amount of Laser Clean EX #15160 onto the plate 3. Use a "Handi-painter" ** to vigorously wipe down the plate in a circular motion. The pink solution should immediately take on a grayish color (indicating that it is working) 4. Mount plate on press. No additional prep work is needed- (No wiping or washing necessary ) 5. If any toning remains- take a cotton pad and apply some Quick-dry Blanket wash- Lightly wipe, avoiding any image area (solvent will remove image) Wipe off solvent with water and clean cotton pad- 6. Also recommend using either Enhanced Fountain Solution #15150 or Optimum Laser Fountain Solution #15180 - These run wetter, as well as, clean and easy -with no scumming 7. Laser Plates also have a tendency to have some stretch. To minimize stretch on longer runs-place a piece of masking tape at the top of the plate before punching-
