Verse 2 She's the sweetest rose of color a fella ever knew. Her eyes re bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew. You may talk about your dearest maids and sing of Rosa Lee, But the yellow rose of Texas beats the belles of Tennessee. ******************************
Note: One story is that this "Rose" was in real life a lady of the evening who was hired to "engage" Santa Anna just before the Mexican troops were to storm the Alamo. It was hoped that her "wiles" would delay the attack long enough for the defenders of the church/fortress to be better prepared, or be reinforced. Evidently, it didn't work. No attempt was made to authenticate the story.
There are several versions of the lyrics with slight differences in the melody line.
