Open My Eyes That I May See

A music instructor at The Ladies Seminary at Lyons, Iowa, Clara Scott, wrote this hymn in 1882. It is an excellent prayer for us to play on our harmonica before we open the Bible to read.

7 -7  -6   6    -6 -6  6   6
O-pen my eyes, that I may see

  -8  -7  -6   6   -7   -6   6   6
Glimp-ses of truth You have for me;

  6   -6  6  -6   -6  -7  -6  -7   7
Place in my hands the won-der-ful key

 -6   -6   -7  -8  -7  -7  -6   6
That shall un-lock and set me free.

chorus

 7  -7  -6  6 -6  -6   6   6
Si-lent-ly now I wait for You,

 -8 -7  -6  6    -7   -6   6  6
Read-y, my God, Your will to do;

8 -8   7   7    7 -8   7  -6
O-pen my eyes, il-lu-mine me,

  6  -8  7   7
Spir-it di-vine!

verse 2
Open my ears, that I may hear
Voices of truth so sharp and clear;
And while the message sounds in my ear,
Everything else will disappear.
Silently now I wait for You,
Ready, my God, Your will to do;

verse 3
Open my mouth, let me declare
Words of assurance everywhere;
Open my heart, and let me prepare
Your loving kindnesses to share.
