My Faith Looks Up to Thee

It is interesting to note that this hymn was written by a twenty two year old school teacher. And it is considered by students of hymnody to be one of the finest American hymns ever written. Ray Palmer wrote this in 1830 in Rhode Island.
 4   5     6    6 -5   5
My faith looks up to Thee,

 -4   -4  -5 -5   5 -4
Thou Lamb of Cal-var-y,

 5   -4  -6   6
Sav-iour div-ine!

 6    5  -5   6  -6   6
Now hear me while I pray;

  6   5  -5   6  -6  6
Take all my guilt a-way.

 7 -7  -6   6   -5   5
Oh let me from this day

 4  -4  6    4
Be whol-ly Thine!

verse 2

May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire;
As Thou hast died for me,
O may my love to Thee
Pure, warm and changeless be
A living fire!

verse 3

While Life's dark maze I tread
And griefs around my spread,
Be Thou my guide:
Bid darkness turn today,
Wipe sorrow's tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

verse 4

When ends life's transient dream,
When death's cold sullen stream
Shall o'er me roll,
Blest Savior, then, in love,
Fear and distrust remove
O bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul.
