Day by Day

P. T. Barnum brought several European musicians to the United States and promoted a series of concerts for them. One such artist was Jenny Lind. Jenny retired from the opera stage following her conversion to Christianity and began singing gospel music in Europe. She loved to sing the hymns of a Swedish hymnwriter, Lina Sandell. When Barnum contracted with her to do a series of concerts in America, Jenny Lind had some of Lina's hymns translated into English. One of these hymns was "Day By Day". We can thank P. T. Barnum for helping to introduce this favorite hymn to the United States.
