The Haven Of Rest

The author of this hymn, Henry Glimour, migrated to America from Ireland. He practiced dentisty for many years then spent the last 25 years of his life as a gospel musician. Christians are never promised that life will be smooth sailing. We face the storms just like everybody else. But we do have a haven of rest.

My soul, in sad ex-ile,

 7 7 -6 7 6
was out on life's sea.

 6 7 7 7 7 -8 8 -8
So bur-dened with sin and dis-tressed,

  6 6 8 8 8 8 -8 7
'Till I heard a sweet voice say-ing,

 7 -6 7 6
Make me your choice,

 6 6 7 7 7 8 -8 -8 7
And I en-tered the ha-ven of rest.

 7 -9 -9 -9 -9
I've an-chored my soul

-9 -9 8 8 8 8
in the ha-ven of rest,

8 -8 7 7 7 7 -8 8 -8
I'-ll sail the wide seas no more;

 6 8 8 8 8
The tem-pest may sweep

-8 7 7 -6 7 6
o'er the wild, storm-y deep,

 6 7 7 7 8 8 -8 7
In Je-sus I'm safe ev-er more.

verse 2
I yielded myself to His tender embrace,
And faith taking hold of the Word,
My fetters fell off, and I anchored my soul,
The haven of rest is my Lord.

verse 3
The song of my soul, since the Lord made me whole,
Has been the old story so blest
Of Jesus, who'll save whosoever will have
A home in the haven of rest.
